Biography

MARCO AMHERD is a graduate in conducting, organ and economics of the Universities of Zurich, Freiburg and Toulouse. From 2016 to 2018 he was a Fellow of the Conductors Forum of the German Music Council. He has won prizes at numerous international competitions, including the Bach Competition in Wiesbaden, the Zilbermann Organ Competition in Freiberg, the Kurt Bosler Organ Competition in Freiburg, and the Mendelssohn Competition in Arau. His repertoire focuses on the vocal and organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Schütz and Max Reger, as well as music of the twenty-first century. He is Artistic Director of the Swiss Vocal Consort, a professional ensemble for specific genres as well as for early and contemporary music. He also collaborates with the vocal ensemble Zurich West and the Zurich Youth Chamber Choir. He teaches conducting at the Universities of Arts in Zurich and Lucerne. He is Artistic Director of the Davos Festival. Following his interest in interdisciplinary ideas and mixed genres, he expresses his concert programmes as a synthesis of music and literature in a socially relevant context.
