Biography
The performances of the flutist LUISА SELLO have been characterized by the New York Concert Review as distinguished by excellent breath control, brilliant technical rendering, engaging intensity, sonorous range and abundance of charm. She is a Miyazawa flute artist and an ambassador for music and Italian culture, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Her international career includes collaborations with Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Thailand Symphony Orchestra, and the Prazak string quartet; with conductors Riccardo Muti, Trevor Pinnock, Alirio Diaz, Philippe Entremont, Bruno Canino, and Кarl Leister, among others. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Juilliard School, Suntory Hall, and others. She has collaborated with composers Salvatore Sciarrino, Aldo Clementi, Rainer Bischof (première performances). She has been a professor of flute at the Academy of Music in Milan and Trieste (Italy), currently she is a Doctoral Professor at the New Bulgarian University of Sofia (Bulgaria) in flute and a visiting professor at Universities in Vienna, Madrid, Beijing, Melbourne, Toronto, New York, Kyoto, Bangkok, Buenos Aires, among others.In obtaining both her ArtD in Performing Arts and her PhD in Linguistic and Literary Sciences, she studied in Paris with Raymond Guiot and Alain Marion, who proclaimed her “very musical, superb”. She also worked at the Accademia Chigiana with Severino Gazzelloni, who remarked her “magnificent interpretive sensibility and excellent sound”, and with Conrad Klemm in Rome,who wrote that she was a virtuoso without sacrificing expressiveness. She records for Stradivarius, Dynamic (Italy) and Millennium (Beijing). Luisa Sello is the artistic director and jury member of the prestigious annual International Flute Competition "Moyse" ( its first edition in 2023), which is held at New Bulgarian University and was created at her idea to expand the already existing friendship between Italian and Bulgarian institutions and the international promotion of the performance PhD program at NBU in the field of flute art.
