Ladislav Slovák

Ladislav Slovák is a Slovak conductor.

He studied organ at the Bratislava Conservatory, graduating in 1942. He then studied conducting with K. Šimpl and Václav Talich, and in 1954–1955 completed an internship in Leningrad with Evgeny Mravinsky. In 1955–1961 he was the chief conductor of the Czechoslovak Radio Symphony Orchestra in Bratislava. In 1961–1981 he led the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he recorded all of Shostakovich's symphonies. At the same time, in 1972–1976 he was the conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra.

Ladislav Slovák is best known as a performer of 20th-century music, including Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Evgeny Sukhon.
