Ladislav Holoubek

Ladislav Holoubek (August 13, 1913, Prague – September 4, 1994, Bratislava) was a Czech and Slovak composer and conductor.

After graduating from high school in Trnava, he studied piano with E. Križán at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava, conducting with Josef Vintzourek, and composition with Aleksander Moises. He completed his education in 1934–1936, studying in the master class of Vitezslav Novak at the Prague Conservatory. In 1933, he became conductor of the Slovak National Theatre, where he worked until 1952. In 1955–1958, he was conductor of the Military Art Ensemble in Bratislava, and in 1955–1958, he was artistic director and conductor of the State Theatre Opera in Košice. In 1958 He returned to Bratislava for a while, and in 1966 he returned to Košice. He worked as a conductor at the Košice Opera until 1981.
