Kirill Troussov

Supported and guided by Sir Yehudi Menuhin at a young age, KIRILL TROUSSOV is now widely recognised as one of the leading violinists of his generation. The international press describes his playing as “…impressive elegance, irreproachable technique, exceptional musical sensitivity, and sonorities of immaculate beauty.” Born in Saint Petersburg in 1982, he began playing the violin at the age of four. In 1990, his family moved to Germany, where he continued his studies at the Music School in Lübeck and the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Professor Zakhar Bron (until 2005), with whom he also studied for a year at the University of Music “Reina Sofía” in Madrid. He completed his studies with Christoph Poppen at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. His mentors also included Igor Oistrakh, Hermann Krebbers, and Sir Yehudi Menuhin. Kirill Troussov is a regular guest at prestigious concert halls and renowned international music festivals all over the world. He has collaborated with celebrated conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Daniele Gatti, Lawrence Foster, Jiří Bělohlávek, Michail Jurowski, David Stern, Christoph Poppen, Vladimir Spivakov, Mikko Franck, and Louis Langrée, as well as with major orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Berlin, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre National de France, Radio Orchestra of Hessischer Rundfunk, and the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Baden-Baden, among others. His music has brought him to venues such as Tonhalle Zürich, Berliner Philharmonie, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels, Théâtre du Châtelet, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, De Doelen in Rotterdam, NCPA in Beijing, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Verbier Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, and the Menuhin Festival Gstaad. His passion for chamber music and friendship connects Kirill Troussov with artists like Sol Gabetta, Yuja Wang, Daniel Hope, Joshua Bell, Gautier and Renaud Capuçon, Yuri Bashmet, Mischa Maisky, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Julian Rachlin, Christian Zacharias, and Natalia Gutman. He performs in a duo with his sister, pianist Alexandra Troussova, and in the Brodsky Trio, in which the two partner with cellist Benedikt Kloeckner. The tour of Asia with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, his impressive performance at the BBC Proms, and his work as a jury member at international competitions (including the Schönfeld International String Competition, the Eugène Ysaÿe, and Carl Flesch competitions) are just some of the many highlights of his recent concert seasons. Among the violinist’s international awards are: First Prize at the Wieniawski Competition, the European cultural award Pro-Europa, the Davidoff Prize at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Yamaha International Award, and the Reuters Prize at the Verbier Festival. Kirill Troussov regularly teaches master classes at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Kronberg Academy, the Colburn School in Los Angeles, the Central Conservatory in Beijing and Nanjing, the European Music Institute in Vienna, and others in Cremona, Milan, Madrid, Dublin, Berlin, Munich, Oslo, Budapest, the USA, Hong Kong, and Japan. Since 2021, he has been chairman and artistic director of the International Competition for Young Musicians in Hong Kong and vice president and artistic director of the Carl Flesch Competition in Hungary. His recordings, released by prestigious labels such as EMI Classics, Warner Classics, Dabringhaus & Grimm, Naxos, and Farao Classics, have won numerous awards and been highly praised by international critics. Since 2023, the Orchid Classics label has been releasing the series Kirill Troussov Live, which makes 40 of his famous concert performances available on all audio streaming platforms. The series has now reached 2.5 million listeners. In 2024, Kirill Troussov founded the Sarasate Academy in Madrid, Spain, and the Engers Academy near Frankfurt, Germany. He also took on the role of artistic advisor to the Kaposfest International Festival in Hungary, as well as artistic director of the Festival Internacional de Música Pago de la Jaraba in Spain and the Ammerseerenade festival near Munich, Germany. Since October 1, 2025, Kirill Troussov has been a professor of violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. He plays Antonio Stradivari’s 1702 “Brodsky” violin—the same instrument Adolf Brodsky used to perform the world premiere of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto on December 4, 1881.
