Kalina Vasileva

KALINA VASILEVA was born in the town of Shumen in a family of musicians. In 2008 she graduated from the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School, Sofia in the flute class of Prof. Lydia Oshavkova. She continued her studies at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Music Academy simultaneously in the Instrumental and Theoretical Composition and Conducting Faculty. She graduated with two majors: opera-symphonic conducting (in the class of Prof. Plamen Djourov and Assoc. Prof. Georgi Patrikov) and flute (in the class of Prof. L. Oshavkova). In 2018 she obtained successfully the degree of Doctor of Musicology and Musical Art at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Music Academy. She has published in bodies of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, National Music Academy, Konstantin Preslavsky Shumen University, etc. At the end of 2019 her book Orchestral Art in Shumen from the First Bulgarian Orchestra until Today was published. At the end of 2022 she successfully graduated as a Master of Arts in Art Management at the Prof. Asen Diamandiev Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts, Plovdiv. Since September 2013 she has been working as a conductor at the Shumen Symphony Orchestra, and from 2015 to 2016 she also conducted the Razgrad Dimitar Nenov Philharmonic Orchestra. She was a guest conductor of orchestras in Sofia, Vidin, Haskovo, Razgrad, Dobrich and Sliven. She has worked with some of the most successful Bulgarian musicians and has amassed a rich symphonic repertoire, including a number of premiere performances of works in Bulgaria (as well as in Shumen). In 2019 she was an active participant in the masterclass of conductor Uroš Lajovic in Plovdiv. In the period 2020-2022 she was a lecturer in History of Bulgarian Music at the Faculty of Education of the Konstantin Preslavsky Shumen University. In 2020 she was conferred the Prize for Art and Culture in the Music section for 2020 by the Shumen Municipality. In December 2022, after successfully qualifying in a competition at the Ministry of Culture, she took the position of Director of the Shumen Sinfonietta.
