Biography

JULIAN KONSTANTINOV graduated from the Music Academy in the class of Assen Selimski in 1992. He made his debut with Don Basilio at Sofia Opera, where he has been a soloist since 1994. In 1996 he won First Prize at the Boris Christoff International Competition for Young Opera Singers. After that his career took him to the biggest opera houses on five continents, such as La Scala di Milano, The Metropolitan, Covent Garden, Staatsoper Vienna, Opera Bastille in Paris, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid, The Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as well as Del Opera in Rome, Fenice in Venice, Reggio Parma, Maggio Musicale in Florence, Bavarian Opera in Munich, to Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Geneva, as well as in concert halls such as Carnegie Hall , Musikverein, NHK - Tokyo, Berlin Philharmonic. He has participated in the Salzburg Festival, Maggio Musiale, etc. He has worked with the most eminent conductors of our time - Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, James Conlon, Riccardo Chailly, Marcello Viotti, Marco Armiliato. His repertoire includes the great Verdi roles - that of Philippe , Zacharias , Fiesco, Attila, Padre Guardiano as well as roles such as Boris Godunov, Mephistopheles, Don Giovanni, Konchak Igalitsky from Prince Igor, Councillor Lindorf, Coppelius, Dappertutto, Miracle from The Tales of Hoffmann and many others. He received the Award For the Best Performance from the repertoire of Boris Christoff, Rosa Ponselle, Pentagram D'oro - for best young performer. He has made recordings for EMI, ORF, Nightingale.
