Juahung Zou

Juahung Zou is a conductor and musician with a broad artistic profile, combining conducting practice, academic activity, and an active performing career as an instrumentalist. His creative approach is characterized by openness to diverse concert formats — from symphonic and operatic productions to educational and interactive projects aimed at new audiences.

As a conductor, Zou has worked with the National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan Players, the National Symphony Youth Orchestra Taiwan, and Camerata Taiwan. In October 2024, he conducted an open-air family concert with musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra, and in April 2025 he led the National Symphony Youth Orchestra in a multimedia concert featuring works by Min-Hsiu Yen, Ottorino Respighi and Georges Bizet, combining music, live animation, and puppet theatre. In February 2025, he realized the interactive concert “Monopoly” with Camerata Taiwan, also serving as the conceptual designer of the program. In November 2025, he conducted the orchestra of Osaka Kyoiku University.

From 2024 to 2025, he worked as Assistant Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan Philharmonic under the mentorship of Maestro Jun Märkl. During this period, he participated in the operatic production of Der fliegende Holländer (July 2025), as well as in concert programs with artists such as Jörg Widmann, Rudolf Buchbinder, Thomas Hampson, Jonathan Tetelman and Akiko Suwanai.

In academia, Zou serves as Guest Professor of Conducting at the National Taiwan University of the Arts and as Orchestral Director at National Chiayi University, where he works with young musicians and develops educational projects.

Among his distinctions is Third Prize at the 2nd Hiroshima International Conducting Competition, as well as participation as a candidate in the II Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors, selected by Valery Gergiev. As an instrumentalist, he won Second Prize (brass quintet) at the 10th Jeju International Brass Competition.

His conducting development includes masterclasses with leading figures such as Daniel Harding (YMGC Orchestra, China, 2025), Tatsuya Shimono (Hiroshima Festival, Japan, 2022 and 2024), Luigi Gaggero (Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, Germany, 2023), Ya-Huei Wang (Taipei City Symphony Orchestra, 2023), Karel Mark Chichon (Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Spain, 2019), Gábor Hollerung (Taipei Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, 2019), Jorma Panula (Camerata Antonius Soler, Spain, 2018) and Jahja Ling (ProArte Orchestra, Hong Kong, 2018).

His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet (2007–2011) and a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting (2015–2019) at Soochow University.

Alongside his conducting career, Zou maintains an active performing career. Since 2018, he has served as Second Trumpet of Taiwan Brass and as a guest musician with the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, performing repertoire by composers such as Mahler, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Respighi and Dmitri Shostakovich. He also worked as a contracted musician with the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra (2014).
