Jooyoung Chang

JOOYOUNG FLORIAN CHANG (b. 1997) is a prolific pianist and conductor. He studied piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz under Prof. Suzana Niederdorfer. During his studies he received prizes at international competitions in Padua, Rome and St. Petersburg - at the Step Towards Mastery Competition he was selected Young Artist by EMCY (European Union of Music Competitions for Young People). After completing his bachelor's degree, he continued his studies in orchestral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under Prof. Mark Stringer. He also participated in masterclasses of renowned conductors such as Uroš Lajovic, Marin Alsop, John Axelrod, Johannes Schlaefli and Petr Popelka. He has worked as assistant conductor with Daniel Linton-France and Martin Hazelböck. He has conducted various orchestras in Europe and Korea, including the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Philharmonie in Baden (near Vienna), Ensemble Con Cuore, the Orchestra of the National Opera in Kharkiv, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, and others. He has performed in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna and the Great Hall of the Haus der Musik in Innsbruck. He conducted a programme of Arnold Schoenberg's compositions at the Daejeon Cosmopolitan Music Festival in Korea. His repertoire also includes operas such as Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, Love Potion, Madama Butterfly, etc. As an assistant conductor he has also conducted the opera Hansel and Gretel.
