Jaroslav Kyzlink

Czech conductor JAROSLAV KYZLINK was born in 1973 in Brno, where he graduated in choral and orchestral conducting from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts. His career in music commenced with his 1992 appointment at the Janacek Opera (National Theatre) in Brno – initially as chorus master, then in 1996 as conductor, and between 2001-2003 as principal conductor and artistic director. While directing this opera theatre, Kyzlink gave the world premiere of the original version of Leoš Janáček’s opera The Excursions of Mr. Brouček, embarked on concert tours of the company at festivals in the Czech Republic and Japan. He established a parallel collaboration with the Slovak National Opera Theatre (Bratislava), becoming its principal conductor in 2004 - 2006, and then permanent visiting-conductor. At the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw conducted Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (2008), Korngold’s Die tote Stadt at the Danish National Opera in Copenhagen (2010), Dvořák’s Rusalka in Bonn and at the New National Theatre in Tokyo (2012), Janáček’s Jenůfa for the Slovak National Theatre (2012). In 2013, he reunited with the Danish national opera for a renewed production of Janáček’s Katya Kabanova. Beginning in season 2012/2013, Kyzlink was the principal conductor of the National opera theatre in Prague. He conducted some new productions which include Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Martinů’s Juliette (The Key to Dreams), Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust and Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. Jaroslav Kyzlink has directed over 30 operatic productions in a wide range of styles. Collaborated with numerous symphony orchestras, and since 2006 is occupied as visiting-professor at the Music Faculty of the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava. In 2014/15 he has served as principal conductor Slovenian National Theatre in Ljubljana. From 2016 serves as music director of the National Opera Theatre in Prague. One of many reviews on the Maestro announces in respect with the production of Katya Kabanova at the Danish national opera: „Conductor Jaroslav Kyzlink had as good an eye for details as he had for the forceful orchestral landscapes that complement the simultaneously declamatory and melodic singing from the stage. The contact between conductor, singers, and musicians was secure, and Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra played with convincing character.” („Aarhus Stiftstidende”, 2013)
