Igor Frolov

Russian violinist and composer Igor Frolov (b. 1937) was born in Moscow, to a musical family. His father was a pedagogue, concertmaster and a conductor of Radio Symphony Orchestra afterward. His mother was an accompanist in D. F. Oistrakh's class. Igor Frolov graduated from musical school in B. V. Belenki's violin class.He studied in Moscow State P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music in A. I. Jampolski's class. However he completed his musical studies (and took doctor's degree) in D. F. Oistrakh's class in 1965. He is Professor at the Piotr Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow, Artistic Director and conductor of Moscow Camerata chamber orchestra, Artistic Director of Moscow Philharmonic Society, People's Artist of Russia, as well as Full Member of International Academy od Sciences. He is laureate of All-Russian Violin Competition (1959), All-Union Competition od Music Performers (1960), International George Enescu Violin Competition in Bucharest (1961), International M. Long – J. Thibaud Competition in Paris (1967). Frolov never studied composition formally, but he began to compose on the advice of Oistrakh, who suggested a new cadenza to Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5. His compositions and arrangements for one and two violins and piano are frequently performed in Russia and abroad, by such violinists as Maxim Vengerov and Vadim Repin among many others.
