Hye-Ri Kim

HYE RI KIM is a conductor with a distinctive style that combines delicacy and power in her dynamic interaction with the orchestra and the audience. She is a prize winner of the VI Atlantic Coast International Conducting Competition. Her creative career includes collaborations with renowned ensembles, including the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Ruse State Opera Orchestra, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, the Orchestra Filarmonica dei Navigli, the Berlin Sinfonietta, the Orchester Wallisellen, the Vienna Haydn Symphony Orchestra, and the Atlantic Coast Orchestra. Maestra Kim is the founder, artistic director, and principal conductor of the Festival Chamber Orchestra Zurich. Originally from South Korea, she began her musical training as a cellist. She studied at the Cologne/Aachen University of Music and Dance and at the Zurich University of the Arts. She gained orchestral experience with the Biel-Solothurn Symphony Orchestra. She broadened her musical horizons by studying orchestral conducting with Christof Brunner and Christoph-Mathias Mueller and choral conducting with Martin Hobi. Hye Ri Kim refined her style in masterclasses with legendary conductors and pedagogues such as Jorma Panula, Johannes Schlaefli, Ivan Vasilevsky, Sebastian Lang-Lessing, and Mark Laycock.
