Heraklit Nestorov

Heraklit Nestorov (1896–1940) was Bulgarian composer, violinist and conductor. His father was Bulgarian and his mother, the writer Elsa Asenijeff, was German. He studied Composition at the Academy of Music in Vienna, under Dalcreuse and Bonetti (1912-15). After the declaration of the First World War he lived for a while in Sofia and composed a few of his works. In 1920 he went to live in Vienna where he was appointed conductor of the Vienna Opera and Philharmonic. In 1921 he was appointed violinist in the Philharmonic. Concurrently, he composed. He died during the bombings in Berlin. The exact day of his death is not known. He composed orchestral and chamber works; piano pieces; songs; theatre music, etc. His compositional style is close to the French impressionism.
