Biography

Genrikh (Heinrich) Matusovich Wagner (1922–2000), born in Zirardow, Poland, was one of the largest Belarusian composers of the second half of the twentieth century. He studied piano at the Warsaw Conservatory. Wagner continued later his music education in Minsk and graduated from the Belarusian State Conservatoire (prof. A. V. Bogatyrev's class of composition, 1951). People's Artist of Belarus, 1988. Member of the Composers' Union of Belarus, 1949. Principal compositions: an opera The Path of Life, 3 ballets, 2 vocal symphonic poems Forever Alive, and For Heroes of Brest, instrumental concertos, songs, chamber music, pieces for violin and piano, Three Capriccios among them, trio for cello, violin and piano, concertos and Fantasy for violin and symphony orchestra.
