Hancheng Guo

Hancheng Guo is a Chinese conductor whose artistic development connects the European conducting tradition with an increasingly visible presence on the international concert stage. He is currently completing his Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Music Würzburg under the guidance of Prof. Ari Rasilainen. He previously graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Prof. Guoyong Zhang, Prof. Daye Lin and Prof. Rui Zhang (choral conducting).

In 2025 he was awarded Second Prize at the National Radio Television of Albania “NICOLA ZORAQI” International Conducting Competition.

His artistic formation has been shaped by participation in major international academies and masterclasses. In 2025 he was selected for the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy, working on Don Giovanni with the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini at Fondazione Prada in Milan. Further masterclasses include the Bucharest Conducting Academy with John Axelrod and the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra (Brahms’ Tragic Overture), work with Martin Sieghart and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Dvořák Symphony No. 7), and study with Jorma Panula at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg (Bartók Concerto for Orchestra). Additional mentors have included Mark Gibson, William Boughton, David Hayes, Ulrich Windfuhr, Ronald Zollman, Yang Yang, Jia Lv and Puqi Jiang.

Guo’s concert appearances include performances with the Albanian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (Brahms Symphony No. 1), the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Dvořák Symphony No. 7), and the Sinfonieorchester der Hochschule für Musik Würzburg (Bartók Concerto for Orchestra; Brahms Symphony No. 4). In China, he has conducted the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, the Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra, the Hebei Symphony Orchestra and the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, leading major works by Sibelius, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, Schubert and Beethoven, as well as contemporary Chinese repertoire. He has collaborated with leading soloists in piano, violin and traditional Chinese instruments, and has worked as chorus master and assistant conductor in large-scale symphonic-choral productions.

His operatic experience includes participation in the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy (Don Giovanni), conducting in productions of Così fan tutte, Le nozze di Figaro, La traviata, Turandot, and contemporary Chinese opera premieres.
