Grigoriy Pukst

Grigoriy (Ryhoir) Pukst (1900–1960) was a Belarusian composer. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1928 and later he taught in Omsk and Gomel, as well as in various music schools in Minsk, and at the Belarusian Conservatory (1944-1949 and 1959-1960). He was artistic director in the Radio Information Department at the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR (1953-1958). He wrote the first Belarusian opera for children Marinka. Other works by Pukst are operas Masheka, and Svitezyanka, 6 symphonies (1935, 1944, 1950, 1955, 1957, 1959), cantatas, symphonic suites, instrumental pieces, romances, songs, film and theater music.
