Biography

Georgy Nosov (1911–1970) was a Soviet composer, born in the village of Yudino, Tobolsk province of the Russian Empire, in a peasant family of immigrants from Ukraine. Since 1930, Nosov began studying at the Sverdlovsk musical school with famous Ural composers M. Frolov and V. Zolotarev. During the World War II, he served in the Red Army and wrote songs and heroic-patriotic cantata City on the Neva River for soloists, choir, orchestra and narrator, which was awarded at the competition of the Union of Composers of the USSR in 1945.
