Georgi Mushel

Georgii Mushel (1909–1989) was Russian pianist and composer, born in Tambov in 1909. From 1930 to 1936, he studied piano with Lev Oborin and composition with Nikolay Miaskovsky at the Moscow Conservatory. During World War II, he moved to Tashkent in Uzbekistan, where he taught at the conservatory. Mushel was one of the first classical composer in Uzbekistan and composed the first opera on Uzbek themes, Farkhad i Shirin, as well as other works inspired by Uzbek folklore. He wrote 4 ballets, 3 symphonies and other works for symphony orchestra, 7 piano concertos and one violin concerto, chamber music and piano pieces, and also works for piano ensemble, choral music, and film scores.
