Celebrated equally as a soloist and conductor on major international stages, Austrian artist Florian Krumpöck stands out as an exceptional figure in today’s concert world, commanding an immense repertoire of opera, symphonic and piano works. He captivates audiences particularly in his dual role as pianist and conductor.

In September 2024, he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra del Friuli Venezia Giulia. His debut album for Sony Classical, released in October 2023, features solo works by Frédéric Chopin and led him to performances in major venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Elbphilharmonie, Wiener Musikverein, Berlin Philharmonie and the Salle Cortot in Paris.

A recital DVD recorded in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein with works by Franz Schubert, Alban Berg and Franz Liszt followed. As the first Dolby Atmos production from this historic hall, it became globally available via Amazon Video in January 2025.

In the 2021/22 season, Krumpöck conducted the acclaimed new production of Janáček’s Jenůfa at the Théâtre du Capitole. Engagements include appearances with the Haydn Orchestra Bolzano, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at the Rudolfinum, the Wiener Musikverein and the Korean Symphony Orchestra.

A protégé of pianists such as Rudolf Buchbinder, Gerhard Oppitz and Elisabeth Leonskaja, Krumpöck was introduced early to wide audiences by Peter Ustinov. After hearing him perform, Daniel Barenboim described him simply as “a wonderful pianist,” paving the way for his international career.

Following his sensational debut at the Tonhalle Zürich with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Fedoseyev, invitations led him to major music centers across Europe, Israel, the United States, China and South Korea, as well as festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Bregenz Festival and the Bach Festival Leipzig.

As a conductor, he made his international debut in 2006 with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, he conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and worked at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

In 2011, he became General Music Director for Concert and Opera at the Volkstheater Rostock and Principal Conductor of the North German Philharmonic Orchestra, leading Mahler cycles, a complete Beethoven symphony marathon, and numerous opera premieres. In 2012, he was appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, guiding its successful artistic reorganization.

He has since appeared as guest conductor with leading orchestras including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon, the Royal Chapel Copenhagen, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. In 2015, he conducted the traditional New Year’s Concert at the Großes Festspielhaus with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

Since 2018/19, he has maintained close collaboration with the Théâtre du Capitole. Alongside his conducting and piano career, he has served since 2015 as Artistic Director of Kultur.Sommer.Semmering and since 2020 as Artistic Director of the Bösendorfer Festival Wiener Neustadt.
