Evelin Schörkhuber

Born in Steyr, Austria, soprano EVELYN SCHÖRKHUBER started her music training in Weyer and Waidhofen/Ybbs, where she studied piano, guitar and violoncello at the school of music. Having received her first voice lessons at the age of twelve, she made her stage debut with orchestra at fifteen, as a high school student, performing the parts of Papagena in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and Hänsel in Humperdinck's Hänsel and Gretel. While still student at the Vienna Conservatory, she performed a number of different roles in studio productions, including Frau Fluth in the Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai, Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, and Tessa in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers. During this period she also performed in productions and tours of the Vienna Chamber Opera, the Mörbisch Festival and throughout Europe, China and Japan. In 2000-2003, she signed with the Burgtheater Vienna, where she appeared in both singing and theatrical roles and worked with the best German-language actors and stage directors. After completing her studies, Evelyn Schörkhuber performed with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich at the Reinsberg Opera Festival, singing the role of the First Lady and later as the Queen of Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute at the Vienna Jugendstil Theater and on tour in Japan. On her subsequent tour she portrayed Saffi in Johann Strauss's Der Zigeunerbaron (‘The Gypsy Baron’). In 2009, Evelyn debuted at the Young Artists Program of Teatro Real in Madrid as Alice Ford in Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi, and as Hanna in Franz Lehar's Die lustige Witwe ('The Merry Widow'), winning scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for training in stage performance at the Universidad Alcala. In 2011, she appeared in numerous concerts with a Claudio Monteverdi program, which she performed in a number of Spanish cities, including Siguenza, Salamanca, Toledo, and Valencia. As a soloist to the Ensemble Mosaik, Evelyn appeared in a program of virtuosic Händel arias, followed by another portrayal of the First Lady and Pamina in The Magic Flute on a tour across Austria and Germany. Evelyn Schörkhuber won the third place at the Tournoi International de Musique in Paris in June 2012. In 2013, she co-founded the chamber music project Lied im Brick together with pianist Volker Nemmer. From September of the same year, Evelyn Schörkhuber teaches at the vocal faculty at the Richard Wagner Conservatory, Vienna, and gives masterclasses in collaboration with agencies from all over the world (China, USA, Europe). Many of her students are prize winners and finalists of important competitions, like Grandi Voci, Belvedere (Austria), Magda Oliverо (Italy), the vocal competition of Saint Petersburg and others.
