Biography

Prize-winner of First Prize, Zarzuela Prize and Public Award of Operalia Competition 2025 (Sofia, Bulgaria Hall, 20 - 26.10.2025), EKATERINE (KATO) BUACHIDZE began her career as a singer from a very young age becoming a member of the folkloristic choir of children called “Little Georgica”, with which she won the renowned international choir competition “Grand Prix of Nations” in Berlin (2017). She is also the winner of the first prize and 3 special prizes at a prestigious competition "Tebaldi-Gigli-Corelli" in the city of Pesaro. She was also awarded the second prize at the “Black Sea International Competition - Opera’s Golden Voice” of Batumi (Georgia). In 2020, the young singer began her studies at the Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatory in Tbilisi. In January 2023, she joined the Fabbrica program for young artists at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, where she made her debut as Kate Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, directed by Alex Ole and conducted by Roberto Abbado. In July and August, she performed as Flora in Verdi's La Traviata, conducted by Paolo Arrivabene and directed by Lorenzo Mariani. At the same time, she participated in the project Ricostruzione 1.0 with music by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, and Puccini, an original production by Fabbrica YAP of the Rome Opera for the Caracalla Festival in Rome. In September 2023, she joined the Rome Opera’s tour in Japan, performing in La Traviata at the Bunka Kaikan Theatre in Tokyo, conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Sofia Coppola. In March 2024, she performed the role of Chesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the Rome Opera, under the baton of Michele Mariotti and in a production by Ersan Montag. In August 2024, she made her debut at the Arena di Verona as Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. She subsequently joined the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she appeared as the Sandman in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Lola in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and the Kitchen girl in Dvořák’s Rusalka. In September 2025, Ekaterine Buachidze made her debut at the Queen Sofia Palace of the Arts in Valencia as Siébel in Gounod’s Faust. She has also appeared in recitals with Sonya Yoncheva at the Festival Castell de Peralada in Spain and at the National Opera in Bordeaux, France. Her upcoming engagements include a recital in Prague; performances in Rossini’s heroic melodrama Tancredi and Gounod’s Faust at the Rome Opera; Handel’s Ariodante with the French baroque ensemble Les Arts Florissants; Bellini’s Norma at the Varna Opera; and Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at the Valencia Opera.
