Dorian Dimitrov

Dorian Dimitrov (b. 17 August 1994) is a Bulgarian-British conductor. His artistic approach combines sensitive musicality, precise technique, and a clearly defined concept of orchestral sound. He is currently Music Director of the Hounslow Symphony Orchestra in London.

He made his conducting debut with the Guildhall Concert Orchestra during his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama — an event that shaped the direction of his professional development. He continued his specialization with distinguished conductors and pedagogues, including Paavo Järvi, Leonid Grin, Nicolás Pasque, Johannes Schlaefli and Jonathan Bloxham. He completed a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf under Prof. Rüdiger Bohn.

His professional breakthrough came in 2014, when Kristjan Järvi invited him to serve as assistant conductor of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic — a collaboration that led to work with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, MDR Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. In 2022, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra invited him to serve as assistant to its Music Director, Domingo Hindoyan, marking the beginning of a series of international engagements and collaborative projects, including with operatic soprano Sonya Yoncheva.

Among the ensembles with which he has worked and conducted are the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Rheinische Philharmonie, London Mozart Players, Berliner Rundfunk, MDR Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile, Hamburg State Philharmonic, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, as well as the orchestra of the Varna State Opera.

Since his first invitation to conduct the Hounslow Symphony Orchestra in 2019, Dimitrov has become a key figure in the ensemble’s development, and in 2022 he was appointed its Principal Guest Conductor. Under his leadership, the orchestra has realized large-scale projects such as Fauré’s Requiem (2024), Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (2025), and Orff’s Carmina Burana (2026), developing new artistic partnerships and expanding its repertoire profile.

In 2025, Dorian Dimitrov won Second Prize at the International Conducting Competition “Borislav Ivanov” and was a semi-finalist at the International Conducting Competition in Almería, Spain.

Before dedicating himself fully to conducting, he received solid pianistic training at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he graduated with First-Class Honours in Classical Piano. He worked as Assistant Conductor with Orpheus Sinfonia and Orion Orchestra (2017–2019).
