Biography
DONKA MITEVA studied choral conducting at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in Sofia and orchestral conducting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. She has participated in a number of masterclasses with Jorma Panula, Benjamin Zander and Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Kenneth Kiesler and Jin Wang. She has been the beneficiary of numerous scholarships, including ones from the Richard Wagner Foundation, the Chigiana Academy in Siena, the European Montepulciano Academy and the Noel Minnett Foundation. After her studies in Düsseldorf, from 2007 to 2011 she worked as a conductor and choirmaster at the State Opera in Münster, where she conducted productions such as Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, Tristan und Isolde and Parsifal; Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov; Verdi's Nabucco, Aida and Rigoletto; Puccini's Turandot, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, etc. For her artistic achievements in 2011 she was awarded the special prize by the Muenster Society of Friends of Music and Theatre. Donka Miteva has worked with many ensembles in Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, South Africa, Panama, China, etc. She is a laureate of a number of competitions - in 2013 she won First Prize at the International Competition for Young Conductors in St. Petersburg and Third Prize at the International Conducting Competition Jeunesse Musicales in Bucharest. At the International Choral Competition in Varna she was awarded Best Conductor (2014), and at the Grand Prix of Nations in Berlin - for "Best Conducting and Best Interpretation" (2017). In 2011 she was elected artistic director and conductor of the Collegium Musicum Berlin, which consists of over 450 singers and instrumentalists, students at the Free and Technical University of Berlin. She conducts all four ensembles: the Symphony Orchestra, the Big Oratorio Choir, the Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Choir. She has won many awards with her Collegium Musicum Berlin Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra at prestigious competitions in Germany, including the award for the best choir in Germany in 2023 (Deutscher Chormeister 2023). Donka Miteva has been teaching conducting at the University of the Arts Berlin since 2019. She offers guidance and support to young choral and orchestral conductors, giving them the opportunity to work regularly with the ensembles of Collegium Musikum Berlin. She has been a jury member at various competitions around the world, including China, Latvia, South Africa, Belgium, Portugal and Germany, as well as at prestigious international events such as the World Choir Games, the European Choir Games and the Grand Prix of Nations. Between 2012 - 2018 he was a jury member of the Berlin City Senate for Culture and Choral Art. From 2004 - 2006 she was a board member of Europa Cantat and chairperson of the organization's youth committee. She is a member of the World Choir Council. In the summer of 2024 she was conductor of Eurochoir 2024 , the first time the project was held in Bulgaria. And in December this year she is going to give a concert in Bulgaria Hall with cantatas from J.S.Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Symphony Orchestra and the Oratorio Chorus of the Collegium Musicum Berlin.
