Donka Angacheva

The Austrian concert pianist of Bulgarian descent DONKA ANGATSCHEVA received her master's degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under the legendary Professor Heinz Medjimorec. She then continued her studies at the renowned Queen Elisabeth College of Music in Brussels with the famous Artemis Quartet. A prizewinner of numerous international competitions Donka Angatscheva was already on stage at the age of five. At just ten years old, she gave her first concert as a soloist with the Plovdiv Philharmonic. An experienced interpreter of the works of Chopin and Liszt, Donka Angatscheva demonstrates her skill and deep reverence for these composers as both a sensitive chamber musician and in collaborations with symphony orchestras. She has performed with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bayreuth Chamber Orchestra, the Quito Symphony Orchestra, the Vogtland Symphony Orchestra, the Tyrolean Symphonic Winds and the Plovdiv Philharmonic, among others. These international collaborations have brought her recognition and allowed her artistic expression to mature continually. She has performed on prestigious stages such as the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Lisztzentrum Raiding and the Tonhalle Zürich, as well as in concert halls in Olten, Madrid, Málaga, Brussels, Thessaloniki and Montpellier and others. Her performances with Trio D'Ante have earned her the admiration of audiences and critics alike. In 2019, Donka Angatscheva was accepted into the exclusive circle of Bösendorfer Artists, in the distinguished company of Sir András Schiff, Christoph Eschenbach, Rudolf Buchbinder. That same year, she received the Advancement Award from art-st-urban classics (Switzerland) and performed with members of the Vienna Philharmonic in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, for which she was awarded the Golden Spring Award. Her discography now comprises nine CDs on labels such as Naxos, Ars Produktion, Gramola and Hitsquad Records. She is regularly invited to serve as a juror at international competitions. In addition to her international concert career, she has enjoyed a teaching career as a lecturer at the Vienna Conservatory, where she has taught for more than eight years. Donka Angatscheva has led masterclasses at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Quito, the Conservatorio Superior in Málaga, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Art St. Urban Classics in Switzerland, and the Malta International Music Festival. In 2023, she was named Woman of the Year by the Austrian magazine Look. She is the founder of the artists' initiative "Die Kunst in Österreich lebt weiter" (Art in Austria Lives On). Bulgarian cultural journalist and producer Georgi Toshev dedicated the cinematic documentary Appassionata to her artistic work. The film premiered at the renowned Sofia International Film Festival in 2024. Since October 2025, she has curated the renowned concert series Bösendorfer Piano Worlds at the Wiener Neustadt City Theatre. In November 2025, she was elected President of the International Chopin Society in Vienna. On September 30^th 2025, the Republic of Austria recognised her outstanding artistic achievements and cultural dedication by awarding her one of its highest distinctions: the Golden Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria.
