Dmitri Jurowski

Dmitri Jurowski was born on 6 November 1979 in Moscow into a family with several generations of musicians. His grandfather, Vladimir Jurowski, was a composer, his father, Mikhail Jurowski, was a conductor, his older brother, Vladimir Jurowski, is also a conductor, and his sister, Maria Dribinski (Jurowskaia), is a pianist and a pedagogue. At the age of 6, the boy began learning the cello at the Central Music School of the P. I. Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, but was forced to abandon his career as an instrumentalist due to progressive arthrosis. In 1989 he moved with his family to Germany. He continued his studies in Berlin and Rostock, studying at the conducting faculty of the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. He became an assistant conductor for a production of Prokofiev's Boris Godunov which he conducted along with his father, for the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 2004 of the production of Parsifal at the Teatro Carlo Felice - Genoa. In 2005, he began a solo conducting career, appearing with the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Rome National Opera Orchestra, the Komische Oper Berlin, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, as well as with the Dresden Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Portugal and other ensembles, as well as at the Mikhailovsky Theatre - St. Petersburg and the New Israeli Opera. Since 1 January 2011 he has been chief conductor of the Royal Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. Since the same year he has also been Chief Conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra "Russian Philharmonic". Since 2015 he has been Musical director and Chief conductor with the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. At the end of 2021 Jurowski took the post of artistic director of the theatre, replacing Vladimir Kekhman.
