Biography
DEYAN VATCHKOV (bass) graduated from Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in the class of prof. Konstantin Karapetrov and Prof. Nedyalkov. He won the prestigious Belvedere Competition, where he was awarded the Verdi Preis and Kammeroper Preis Prizes, which opened the way to a worldwide career. His debut in Vienna as Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville predetermined his success on the most prestigious opera stages. He is a member of the Opera Studio at the Scala di Milano, where he has appeared in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Rossini's The Barber of Seville and Verdi's Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio . He won First Prize and the Special Prize Arrigo Boito at the International Competition in Padua. He has enjoyed success on the most prestigious Italian opera stages, in Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Amsterdam, Lausanne, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Tokyo, Toronto, Seattle, Moscow, etc. In 2018 he participated in the Beijing premiere of Masne's Thais, starring Plácido Domingo. He has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Daniel Oren, Nicola Luisotti, Daniele Callegari, Donato Renzetti, Stefano Ranzani and directors of the stature of Franco Zeffirelli, Hugo de Ana, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Robert Carsen, Yánnis Kókkos. Since the 2013/2014 season he has been a soloist of the Varna State Opera.
