Biography

DANIEL LÓPEZ-CORTÉS began his studies in Colombia at the age of 17, in choral conducting at the University of Antioquia and orchestral conducting with Alejandro Posada at EAFIT University. He worked as an instructor in Orchestral Conducting in the Sinfonia por el Perú program, and was Assistant Conductor of the Bolivian Philharmonic Orchestra for two years. He has conducted the Plovdiv Opera, with a concert version of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and the Inosente Carreño Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Simón Bolívar Hall in Caracas, Venezuela. He is music director of Küchenchor in Vienna, Austria. He has participated in masterclasses of renowned conductors such as Philippe Auguin, Marin Alsop, Francisco Rettig and Roberto González-Monjas. In 2018, he won the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra's Young Talent Competition and conducted a concert at Teatro Fundadores. In the following year he graduated with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Iberacademy Orchestra and Choir and soloists from the Cathedral of Medellín. In addition to conducting, he is also a singer, composer and teacher. He has been awarded fellowships from the Oro Molido, Iberacademy and Hilti foundations, which enabled him to continue his studies in Vienna. He is a recipient of the Medal of Honor for the Arts awarded by ESFAP in Peru. He is currently studying in Simeon Pironkoff's orchestral conducting class at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
