Cyril Rovery

CYRIL ROVERY studied singing at the Conservatoire of Marseille, in the class of Tiberius Raffalli and graduated in 2000 with a gold medal. He also attended the classes of Leo Nucci, Alain Fondary, Gabriel Bacquier, Robert Massard and Renato Bruson. He won the First Prize at the Macon International Autumn Competition (1999) and at the International Competition in Sienna (2002), where he also received the Prize of the Audience. As a student he made his debut as Schaunard (La Bohème), Escamillo (Carmen) and Masetto (Don Giovanni). In 2000, he took part in the production of the opera Alfred, Alfred by Italian composer Franco Donatoni at the Théâtre des Amandiers in Paris, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and in Forever Valley by Gérard Pesson. His repertoire includes the baritone parts from Faust, Carmen, Rigoletto, Pelléas et Mélisande, Madama Butterfly, Lucrèce Borgia, Toska, Simone Boccanegra, Don Carlos, Boris Godunov, Parsifal, Le Nozze di Figaro, Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona (“The Servant Mistress”), Massenet’s Ariane, Mayerber’s L’Africaine, Berlioz’s Les Troyanes, Delib’s Lacme, Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites (“Dialogues of the Carmelites”), in Colomba – an operatic work by French composer Jean- Claude; in the opera Le Dernier jour d’un condamné (“The Last Day of a Condemned Man”) by French composer David Alagna; in the opera L’Hirondelle inattendue (“The Unexpected Swallow”) by Polish composer and violinist Simon Laks, who became head of the prisoners’ orchestra at Birkenau-Auschwitz, and others. Mr. Rovery has performed in numerous opera houses across France, in Kanazawa (Japan), in Poland, Romania and. He has also guest appeared more than once in Bulgaria in partnership with Vesselina Kasarova, as well as at many renowned festivals. He has also taken part in numerous performances of oratorio works, in Fauré’s Requiem, Bach cantatas and masses by Mozart and Haydn and in recitals of French music (among them Duparc’s complete musical works) and works of chamber vocal music, such as Schubert’s Winterreise, Liszt’s Three Petrarch Sonnets and others. His numerous recordings for the labels Universal and EDA have received very high praise.
