Claude Debussy

"Symbolist in spirit and impressionist in technique" is the music of CLAUDE DEBUSSY (1862-1918). Indeed, his language, imagery, and aesthetic resonate with many of the ideas of Impressionism in the visual arts, but also of literary Symbolism. In the sophisticated musical world of the French master - sensual and poetic, one can detect the same spectrum of pure flickering colours or the play of veiled meanings. In the twilight of the 19^th century, Debussy quietly but radically unleashed a new approach to musical means of expression - melody, harmony, rhythm, sound colours - and had an inspiring influence on the development of music in the 20^th century. "I love music passionately, and because I love it, I try to free it from the burden of traditions that stifle it. It is a free art, without limits, like the elements, like the wind, the sky, the sea!" professes the French Master. And he bequeathed us magnificent works: the opera "Pelléas et Mélisande", the orchestral "Nocturnes", "The Sea", "Iberia", "The Afternoon of a Faun", the 24 piano preludes, "Images", "Bergamasque Suite", "Children's Corner", etc.
