BOZHIDAR BOZHKILOV (Bass) graduated classical singing at the L. Pipkov National School of Music in the class of Stoyan Popov and Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in the class of prof. Niko Isakov. Alongside his musical education Bozhidar Bozhkilov graduated with a degree in Law from the New Bulgarian University in 2016. He specialised at the International Opera Academy in Brno. He has also studied at the International Opera Academy in Sulmona (Italy), the Boris Christoff Academy in Rome, the International Summer Academy at the Aix en Provence Festival. He studied with Stoyan Popov, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Bruna Baglioni, Montserrat Caballé, Bonaldo Giotti, Larisa Gergieva, Carlo Colombara, Luciana D’Intino, Maestro Mihail Angelov and other prominent musicians. In 2021 he will complete a two-year specialization at the Academy of Teatro La Scala in Milan. In 2022 he participated in Raina Kabaivanska’s annual masterclass in Sofia and won a scholarship to study with her for a year at the Vecchi-Tonelli Institute in Modena (Italy).
He made his operatic debut at the age of 19. Following his success in international competitions for opera singers in Italy, he had a series of performances of The Barber of Seville, Madama Butterfly and La Traviata in Italian productions presented in the Abruzzo and Tuscany region. Over the next 11 years, he performed over 20 roles in operas by Verdi, Mozart, Paisiello, Pergolesi, Puccini, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, etc. and appeared in numerous gala concerts on prestigious stages in Bulgaria, Austria, Albania, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, France, Montenegro, North Korea and other countries. In November 2019, he sanng against Sonya Yoncheva in her Puccini Gala at Bulgaria Hall with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nayden Todorov. In December, he participated in the Bulgarian National Radio’s production of the opera Eugene Onegin with Krassimira Stoyanova. After a national competition, in 2020 Bozhidar Bozhkilov was selected by Sonya Yoncheva to be featured in her gala concert “Return” on the stage of the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, again under the baton of Nayden Todorov, as well as in the opera Bohemi at the Sofia Opera in February 2024. He is a laureate and winner of prestigious awards from over 20 international competitions for opera singers. He has been awarded the gold medal of honour 100 years of Boris Christoff by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.
