Borislava Taneva

BORISLAVA TANEVA has presented herself on the international stage as a pianist, chamber musician and composer. She is a laureate of international piano, chamber music and composition competitions in Bulgaria, Italy, Japan, Greece, Luxembourg and Norway, and in 2010 she was awarded the Grand Prix Exceptionnel at the First International Composition Competition "Artists des Herbes " in Luxembourg, and in 2017 she was awarded the second prize at the Edvard Grieg Composition Competition in Oslo.

Her extensive repertoire also includes works by contemporary composers, as well as works by her father Alexander Tanev. B. Taneva was the first Bulgarian pianist to give an integral performance of the piano sonates of Joseph Haydn in 9 concerts. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Bulgaria, India, Greece (with the Thessaloniki Philharmonic Orchestra and "Orchestra ton chromatin"- Athens), The Ashdod chamber orchestra - Israel, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Radio of Ukraine, Orchester Wallisellen Switzerland.

Borislava Taneva graduated from the National School of Music in Sofia with a gold medal and the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music majoring in piano under Nikolay Evrov, Julia and Konstantin Ganev and composition studies under Parashkev Hadjiev. Since 1990 she has taught piano at the National Academy of Music in various capacities. In 1999/2000 year she won a scholarship from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and specialised contemporary music with prof. Cherie Broome in Milano, where she also performed multiple concerts. She is currently a Professor in Piano in the Piano Department and since 2016 she has been Vice-Dean for Artistic and Creative and International Activities at the National Academy of Music. She is a PhD in Music since 2013. She teaches piano at the New Conservatory in Thessaloniki, and teaches a class on contemporary music interpretation in Athens. She also collaborates with conservatories in Geneva and Larissa, where she gives music seminars on various topics. She has given master classes in Greece, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Singapore, Brazil, Spain, France, Italy, Norway, USA. Her graduates have been repeatedly awarded prizes at international and national music forums. She regularly adjudicates at music competitions in France, Austria, Finland, Singapore, Luxembourg, Greece, Serbia, Malta, Bulgaria.

She is a founder and member of the Swiss-Bulgarian cultural association SBAC, based in Geneva.

In 2014, she was awarded the Golden Quillis Award for outstanding contribution to Bulgarian culture and art, and in 2015 - the Crystal Lyre Award of the Union of Musicians and the Musician of the Year Award of the Bulgarian National Radio for active creative work. Since 2016 she has been co-chair of the Pianissimo Foundation. The London publishing house Musica Ferrum has published her piano works for children, which have been awarded several times at international forums.

She has participated in a number of festivals including: "Sofia Music Weeks", "European Music Festival", "New Year Music Festival", "March Music Days", "Musicexchange", "Sound and Connection", "ppIANISSIMO" - festival for contemporary piano music - Sofia; Balkan Forum Serres, Kefalonia Music Festival, Delphi Music Festival - Greece, Tortoreto Chamber Music Festival, San Benedetto Music Festival - Italy and Craiova muzicala Music Festival - Romania. She has played in the prestigious halls of the "Palau de la Musica" - Barcelona, "Auditorio National de Musica" - Madrid, Brandenburg Theatre, "Megaro musikis" in Thessaloniki and Athens.

In 1998 she participated in the Second International Meeting of Women Composers in Athens. She has made recordings for Bulgarian National Radio, National Television and Greek ERT3.
