Beatriz de Sousa

Beatriz de Sousa appeared recently as Elvira in I Puritani at Ópera de Oviedo, as Adina in L’Elisir d’amore at Ópera de Tenerife and Tbilisi National Opera, as L’amour in Gluck’s Orphée et Euridice with the Real Filharmonia de Galicia, as Francesca in Mercadante’s Francesca da Rimini and Almirena in Händel’s Rinaldo at Ópera de Tenerife. Her upcoming projects include the title role in Massenet’s Manon. She also appeared as Corinna in Il Viaggio a Reims at ROF, Anima Ingrata in Monteverdi's Il Ballo delle ingrate at the Dutch National Opera and Brighton Festival, Galatea in Acis and Galatea for Kolarac National Hall in Belgrade and Lucy in The Telephone for the Gulbenkian Foundation. This led her to work with conductors such as Alberto Zedda, Carlo Rizzi, Paul Daniel, and stage directors Pierre Audi, Emilio Sagi and Mario Pontiggia. Born in Lisbon, early on she moved abroad to study at the Conservatorio del Liceu in Barcelona and later at the University of Music in Vienna. Beatriz received several scholarships from the Gulbenkian Foundation, which allowed her to complement her artistic development. She was also awarded the prize for the best interpretation of an opera aria at the Haydn Competition 2021 in Austria, the 2nd prize of the singing competition Compostela Lirica 2019 in Santiago de Compostela as well as the 2nd prize and Mozart prize of the Grandi Voci Competition 2018 in Salzburg. In parallel, Beatriz presents herself in Lied recitals where she explores her passion for this genre.
