Atanas Atanasov

The famous pianist, composer and pedagogue ATANAS ATANASOV is a graduate of Assoc. Prof. Lydia Kuteva at the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School and prof. Bogomil Starshenov at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Music Academy in Sofia. He has participated in the piano master classes of Regina Smendzyanka in Weimar, Germany and Yvonne Lefebure - Paris, in harpsichord with Suzanna Ruzhichkova, organ with Milan Schlechta and piano with Frantischeck Rauch in Prague. He studied composition with prof. Parashkev Hadzhiev. Atanas Atanasov has won numerous prizes at national and international piano competitions and composition contests. His oeuvre encompasses dozens of opuses in all genres performed at home and abroad. Since 1978 he has taught at the Academy of Music, where he has been a professor of piano accompaniment and composition since 2000. He lectures on the methodology of piano accompaniment and digital bass. He conducts courses in piano interpretation in Greece and Turkey. Piano, harpsichord and organ performer, prof. Atanasov has an active concert and recording career as a soloist, chamber musician and collaborator in choral and orchestral formations. His repertoire is very rich and includes works from the Baroque to the contemporary. He is a first performer of a large number of works by Bulgarian composers and has made a significant number of concert appearances as soloist of symphony orchestras. Particularly prestigious was his participation as composer and pianist in the International Festival of Contemporary Music in St. Petersburg, Russia (1991), where he performed his First Concert for Piano and Orchestra with the Philharmonics of Saint Petersburg. He has made recordings for Balkanton Studio, Gega New, BNR, BNT, Radio Genf, etc.
