Anthony Sintow-Behrens

Born in Munich into a family of singers and musicians, pianist Anthony Sintow-Behrens began his piano lessons at the age of five with the Hungarian-German pianist Andreas Reith. In 2020, after winning a first prize at the national "Jugend musiziert" competition, he commenced his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich under Prof. Silke Avenhaus. He completed his Bachelor's degree with distinction in the summer of 2024 and is currently furthering his education in the Master's programme under Prof. Markus Bellheim.

His musical development was influenced by masterclasses at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Talent Summer Course in Brescia, Italy, and the Music Academy in Pescara. He has also received valuable artistic guidance in private lessons with leading musicians including Marc-André Hamelin, Grigory Sokolov, Daniel Barenboim, and Janina Fialkowska – Arthur Rubinstein’s longtime protégée. In the fields of vocal accompaniment and Lied interpretation, he further specialised under Tobias Truniger, musical director of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera, and the distinguished Lied pianist Gerold Huber.

Critics have praised his playing as “narratively powerful, pianistically exceptionally clean, and highly faithful to the score.” Following his performance of Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major, the Süddeutsche Zeitung highlighted his “exceedingly vital, clear, and transparent” as well as “richly differentiated interpretation,” expressly commending the cadenzas he had composed himself. Reviewers have also praised his ability to shape music with spontaneity and immediacy, while always bringing out its singing quality.

Anthony Sintow-Behrens performs regularly in a wide range of musical settings. His artistic activities encompass solo recitals, chamber music, orchestral appearances, and dedicated work as a Lied accompanist. His repertoire extends from the 18th to the 21st century.

He made his orchestral debut in autumn 2023, performing Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals” in Munich. In 2024, he performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major with the Junges Philharmonisches OrchesterMünchen under Artem Lonhinov, followed by a Lied recital featuring works by Schumann and Strauss. His Spanish debut followed in September 2025 with a chamber music programme featuring works by Poulenc, Dvořák, and Beethoven at the festival in Vigo.

A recent milestone came with his acclaimed performances of Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic under Carlos Domínguez-Nieto in November 2025 in Baden-Baden and Munich. In spring 2026, he was awarded a gold medal at the Vienna International Music Competition. Upcoming artistic highlights include solo and chamber music recitals as well as further performances of Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5.

The Grieg and Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concertos will be at the core of a planned CD project in 2027.
