Ania Vegry

The London-born soprano Ania Vegry studied at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Christiane Iven and Charlotte Lehmann as well as in Madrid with Teresa Berganza. While still a student, she became a permanent soloist member of the Hanover State Opera, where she performed numerous roles, including Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Ilia in Idomeneo, Servilia in La clemenza di Tito and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. For this role she was nominated Young Singer of the Year in the magazine Opernwelt. Vegry has also appeared as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Ännchen in Der Freischütz and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, sang Nanetta in Verdi‘s Falstaff, Oscar in Un ballo in maschera and Gilda in Rigoletto, Puccini‘s Musetta in La Bohème and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi as well as Rosina in Rossini‘s Il barbiere di Siviglia and Madama Cortese in Il viaggio a Reims, Adina in Donizetti‘s L´elisir d ́amore, Cunegonde in Bernstein‘s Candide and Constance in Francis Poulenc‘s Les Dialogues des Carmelites. She has also performed numerous roles of the contemporary repertoire, including Gabrielle in Penderecki‘s Die Teufel von Loudun, Minette in Henze‘s Die englische Katze, as well as Hermione in Manfred Trojahn‘s Orest and Viola & Cesario in Was ihr wollt. The season of 20/21 Vegry premiered Poulenc´s La voix humaine at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau. There she also performed Gilda in Verdis Rigoletto and will appear as Rosina in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia as well as Sophie in Strauss´ Der Rosenkavalier. In the upcoming season she will be premiering the title role in Verdis La Traviata. Guest engagements have taken Vegry to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theater Bremen, Komische Oper Berlin, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Hamburg State Opera, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Konzerthaus Berlin, Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg, Opéra Garnier in Paris, Berlin Philharmonic and Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich. Being a sought-after concert singer, Vegry performs together with conductors such as Alexander Shelley, Jonathan Darlington, Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Simon Halsey, Christopher Hogwood, Keri-Lynn Wilson, Ira Levin, Enrique Mazzola, Gregor Bühl, Marc Albrecht, Kent Nagano, Joana Mallwitz, Dorian Wilson, Ivan Repusic and Helmuth Rilling. She regularly sings recitals and concerts with renowned orchestras such as the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, the Hannoversche Hofkapelle, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and with ensembles such as the Neues Ensemble, Musica Alta Ripa, Musica Assoluta, Ensemble New Seasons, Stockholm Chamber Brass, the Szymanowski Quartet or the Arte Ensemble. Her chamber music partners include internationally renowned musicians such as Tabea Zimmermann, Andreas Ottensamer, Albrecht Mayer, Sharon Kam, Markus Becker, Rudolf Buchbinder, Maxim Vengerov, Andrej Bielow, Nicholas Rimmer and Jan-Philip Schulze. She is a regular guest at festivals such as the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Kunstfestspiele Hannover, Braunschweig Classix, Movimentos, Anima Mundi, Collegium Vocale Crete Senesi (Herreweghe), Festival de musique classique à Sion, and the Sommerliche Tage as well as the Musikwoche Hitzacker. Vegry has recorded opera arias and song cycles for numerous radio stations such as NDR, MDR, SWR or BR. Inspired by the Opera production of F. L. Gassmann’s L`Opera Seria in the gallery building of the „Herrenhäuser Gärten Hannover“ she viewed the entire oeuvre and initiated a recording of the previously unpublished concert and opera arias with the NDR Radiophilharmonie conducted by David Stern (2020 by CPO). Her most recent album Simon Laks: Complete works for voice and piano, which entered the Long list of the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik, was released in June (2021 by eda).
