Andrea Morricone

Italian composer and conductor ANDREA MORRICONE is the son of the great Italian composer Ennio Morricone and brother of director and screenwriter Giovanni Morricone. His initial music studies were held under the direction of his father. He graduated from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in his native Rome majoring in composition (1994) and conducting with Bruno Aprea (1996). In 1998, he did specialized studies in composition at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with Franco Donatoni and Azio Corghi. He has conducted the orchestras of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Hungarian National Opera in Budapest, and other orchestral formations. Andrea Moricone has authored chamber and symphonic music, and his works are heard in performance at various modern music festivals. He has been involved in film music since 1988 when he collaborated with his father on the soundtrack of the movie Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The 'love theme' from this film, composed by Andrea Morricone, was subsequently distinguished with the BAFTA award (1990). Together with his father, he has authored the scores for seven film productions. Since 1997 until now, he has written the music to numerous Italian and American cinema and television productions. In 2012, his score for The Entrepreneur (Italian: "L'industriale"), a film directed by legendary director Giuliano Montaldo, won the Best Composer award on the name of Ennio Morricone. La donna della Domenica ('The Sunday Woman') is an Italian miniseries in two installments, aired on RAI 1 on 11 and 12 April 2011. It was directed by Giulio Base, and featured Giampaolo Morelli and Andrea Osvárt. The miniseries is a remake of the eponymous movie of the 1970s starring Marcello Mastroianni and Jacqueline Bisset, directed by Luigi Comencini and with music written by Ennio Morricone. Andrea Morricone's Waltz is in its own way a replica of the popular Waltz from Dmitri Shostakovich 's Jazz Suite No. 2. Following the introduction of the film in 1988, the love theme from Nuovo Cinema Paradiso gained wide popularity and can be heard in arrangements for various instruments and formations. It has been recorded for major labels in the performances of iconic artists such as Itzhak Perlman in a version for violin and orchestra, conducted by John Williams.
