Biography

Alexander Kandov (b. 1949) graduated from the National Academy of Music majoring in Composition under Professor Dimitar Tapkoff and in Piano under Professor Liuba Obretenova. He worked as a music editor at the Bulgarian National Radio and in Musica Publishing House, and as a lecturer in Polyphony at the National Academy of Music. From 1982 to 1990, he was Chairman of the Young Composers’ Section at the Union of Bulgarian Composers. Since 1990, he has lived in Spain where he has been teaching and composing. At the end of the 1970s and in the 1980s, his compositions in a variety of genres made his name as one of the most original authors of his generation. His work is marked by a tendency to combine various styles and genre forms. He wrote music stage opuses, symphony music, chamber works, electroacoustic music, choral and children’s songs, etc. His music was several times prizewinning. He recorded for the Balkanton Recording Company and for the Bulgarian National Radio.

Works
