Alexander Adjemian

Armenian composer Alexander Adjemian (1925–1987) was born in Tiflis, Georgia. His father, Vardan Adjemian Sr. (1905–1977) was the General Stage Director of the State Academic Theatre of Armenia and his mother was Arus Asryan (1904–1987), one of the leading actress of the same theatre. In 1955, Alexander Adjemian graduated from the Yerevan State Conservatory, where he studied composition with G. Yeghiazarian. In the same year, he wrote his first symphony. Adjemian has taught composition at the Yerevan State Conservatory (1971-87), and was a member of the Composers’ Union of Armenia. He wrote seven symphonies, a Poem-Rhapsody (1957), Ballet Suite (1960), Sinfonietta Pastorale for Chamber Orchestra (1971), a cycle for Voice and Percussion (1969), and a number of songs.
