Alec Avedissian

Baritone ALEC AVEDISSIAN (b. 1982 ) graduated from the National High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Sofia. He attended the classes in Classical Singing of Prof. Assen Selimsky at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music. During his studies at the National Academy of Music he won first prizes at the Elena Nikolai and Pancho Vladigerov International Competitions, as well as the Third Prize at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale Competition in Spoleto, Italy. Since 2002 he has participated in the master classes of the opera prima Alexandrina Miltcheva, with whom he continues his collaboration to this day. He also participated in the master classes of Anna Tomowa-Sintow and Stefka Evstatieva in Sofia, Sona Ghazarian in Vienna, Kiri Te Kanawa and Frederica von Stade in Italy. In recent years, Alec Avedissian's vocal preparation has been closely guided by Krassimira Stoyanova and Sherman Lowe. In 2005 he won the First and the Special Prize at the International Franz Schubert Singing Competition in Ruse, and the Third Prize at the Hristo Brumbarov Academic Competition in Sofia. He won First and Special Prize at the International Joseph Haydn Competition in Sofia (2009). He was a finalist at the major international competitions in Toulouse (2006) and Marseille (2007), France. In 2007 he won a competition for the CNIPAL Opera Studio (Marseille), where he was a soloist during the 2007-2009 season. Alec Avedissian has appeared in numerous concerts in the opera houses of Marseille, Avignon, Toulon and Cannes. He has performed at the opera houses of Sofia, Montpellier, Toulouse, Saint-Etienne, Brest, Rheinsberg, Spoleto, Malmö, Pravets, Erl, Florence, Hanover. He has worked with conductors such as Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Lawrence Foster, Leif Segerstam, Michel Plasson, Marie Jacquot and directors such as Marco Arturo Marelli, Renaud Doucet, Thaddeus Strassberger, Antonio Pilavachi. His repertoire includes the roles of Malatesta (Don Pasquale by Donizetti), Papageno (The Magic Flute) and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte ) by Mozart, Belcore ( Love Potion by Donizetti), Onegin (Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky), Zurga (The Pearl Fishers by Bizet), Marcel and Schonar (La Boheme by Puccini), Lescaut (Manon by Massenet), Figaro (The Barber of Seville), etc. From 2016 to 2023, Avedissian was a member of the Ensemble of the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck, where he appeared in Mozart operas such as Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro), Papageno (The Magic Flute), and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte). He played the role of the Count (Capriccio by R. Strauss), John Sorel (The Consul by Menotti), William (The Fall of the House of Usher by Debussy), Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia by Britten), Taddeo (The Italian in Algiers by Rossini), Albert (Werther by Massenet), Tadeush (The Passenger by Weinberg), Siegfried (Genoveva by Schumann). In the 2024/25 season he performs the role of Dandini in a new production of Rossini's Cinderella at the Essen Opera House in Germany. Together with pianist Ruzhka Charakchieva, he has given song recitals at the international festivals Sofia Music Weeks, Apollonia in Sozopol and has recorded for Bulgarian National Radio.

In 2013 Alec Avedissian was honored as the best young performer with the "Crystal Lyre" by the Union of Music and Dance Artists in Bulgaria.
