Biography

Alceo Bocchino (1918–2013) is one of the most important names in Brazilian music. Born in Curitiba (Paraná), he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he served as music director of the radio stations Mayrink Veiga and Mundial. Bocchino was conductor of important Brazilian orchestras, such as Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, the Radio MEC Chamber Orchestra, besides governing and orchestrating for various other radio and television orchestras. He performed with some overseas orchestras, such as the Bilbao Symphony in Spain, and the Burgás Philharmonic in Bulgaria. Bocchino was one of the founders of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Rádio MEC, the current Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional da Universidade Federal Fluminense. He was one of the most important and respected Brazilian composers of the 20th century, as well as an arranger, and teacher.
