Biography

Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska (b. 1965) is Bulgarian composer, pianist and musical pedagogue. For more than 25 years, she has lived and worked in Luxembourg where she is artistic director of the festivals New Classic Stage and Les Concerts du Foyer Européen. Albena has graduated from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in Sofia. In Luxembourg, she specialized contemporary composition techniques, musical analysis and computer music. In 2007, she received the prestigious commission of the Cultural Year 2007 in Luxembourg and the Greater Region for the composition of "Gladius" for electric guitar and instrumental ensemble. The Cultural Commission granted to her the "Cultural Award" and the title of merits for services rendered to the cultural life of the municipality of Hesperange on the event of Excellence Awards. Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska is author of over 600 musical works in various genres some of which have been published by Schott Music International, Еditions Octanphare and Luxembourg Music Publishers. Works of hers have been performed in USA, Brazil, Australia, Andorra, Germany, Russia, Italy, France, Spain and elsewhere. She is President and Founder of the International Composition Competition “Artistes en Herbe” (Budding Artists) under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg.
